Davis, MD, FACS specializes in primary and revision rhinoplasty and limits his South Florida practice to reconstructive and cosmetic surgery of the face. Board certified as both a facial plastic surgeon and otolaryngologist (ENT), Dr. Davis has performed thousands of nasal surgeries, ranging from the reconstruction of noses ravaged by disease or trauma to complex revision rhinoplasty cases involving multiple previous surgeries.

Since 2002, Dr. Davis' practice has been devoted almost exclusively to cosmetic and functional nasal surgery, comprising approximately 85% of his surgical caseload. He performs 150 to 300 rhinoplasties per year, and on average, 60% of those are revision rhinoplasties. The majority of these surgeries are multi-faceted, incorporating the correction of unsatisfactory cosmetic results from previous rhinoplasties with structural repair and restoration of proper nasal function. Dr. Davis also occasionally performs other facial plastics surgical procedures in conjunction with rhinoplasty, including chin augmentation and eyelid surgery.

Dr. Davis is a frequent instructor and guest speaker at plastic surgery symposiums throughout the United States and abroad. Now in private practice, he served as Chief of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at the University of Miami School of Medicine at Jackson Memorial Hospital in Miami, Florida from 1999 to 2007; he continues to serve as Voluntary Professor of Otolaryngology at the University. After serving a four-year term as Southern Regional Director for the AAFPRS Board of Directors, Dr. Davis was recently elected to serve as Vice President of Education for the AAFPRS and its educational foundation.
Rick Davis.png (https://dl.airtable.com/.attachments/9837003b88e7f3eaffa639d999d03f44/910be106/RickDavis.png)
68,72,78,97
Primary Rhinoplasty: Getting it Right the First Time, Panel: Revision Rhinoplasty: Evaluation, Goals, and Techniques, Panel: Noninvasive, Minimally Invasive, and Open Techniques for Repair of the Nasal Valve , The Functional Aspects of the Revision Rhinoplasty Nose
Rhinoplasty is a challenging operation in which both functional and aesthetic considerations are always present. Every nose is different with its own unique anatomic, aesthetic, and functional characteristics that mandate careful assessment so as to facilitate formulation of an individualized treatment plan. Skin texture, thickness, elasticity, and vascularity; cartilage stiffness, shape and abundance; and airway size and configuration are all critical parameters that present potential impediments to a successful rhinoplasty outcome. Hence, a thorough pre-operative nasal examination is a critical component of every operation. Then, following a careful cosmetic assessment, and an equally careful delineation of the patient’s aesthetic desires, the information is collated and juxtaposed against the various anatomic and functional limitations to create a tailored and individualized treatment plan. In the past 2-3 decades, surgical intervention has steadily evolved to emphasize the preservation of existing skeletal structures and the avoidance of skeletal excision whenever possible. Skeletal repositioning, redistribution, and reinforcement is now used as an effective alternative to excisional rhinoplasty techniques that often destabilize the skeletal framework leading to delayed cosmetic and functional morbidity. Only a strong and shapely skeletal framework with adequate airway dimensions will lead to predictable and durable rhinoplasty outcomes.
There are an infinite number of ways that a nose can become disfigured after a poorly performed rhinoplasty, and there is an unlimited number of nuanced techniques for handling them. In addition to scarring and reduced vascularity that adversely impacts healing and graft survival, skeletal derangements such as missing, damaged, and/or misshapen cartilage or bone make salvage nasal surgery exceedingly difficult. Moreover, in addition to the plethora of cosmetic issues that typically accompany a complex revision rhinoplasty, the overwhelming majority of revision patients also present with symptomatic nasal airway obstruction stemming from a surgically weakened, collapsed, and scarified skeletal framework. Hence functional restoration and/or preservation is a fundamental treatment objective in virtually every major revision rhinoplasty. Typically this involves first reconstituting secure central skeletal support for both the tip and dorsum so as to lift and expand the collapsed nasal airway. This is then combined with strategic bilateral sidewall re-suspension from the newly projected nasal “backbone” so as to reconfigure tip dynamics by toning and tensioning the sidewall tissues for greater resilience against inspiratory collapse. Using this approach, large and bulky sidewall grafts can usually be avoided at the internal nasal valve region which may serve to enhance contour aesthetics, but which may also (inadvertently) constrict the nasal airway at its most vulnerable point.
<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v26.9 -
