As a general ENT, Otologist, or Neurotologist, diagnosis of ear disease typically involves working in tandem with the Audiology team. Once the origin and degree of hearing loss has been identified the next step to treating the patient is to determine if medical and or surgical options are indicated or does the disease offer another avenue to treatment, i.e., amplification, aural rehabilitation. This session will focus on the ENT decision making process to “take the person to surgery” as well as surgical options by disease process.
After attending this activity, attendees will be able to:
1. Describe the surgical thought process of a surgeon for treatment decision making
2. Identify surgical procedures as they relate to different disease process
3. Outline the patient education process prior to surgery scheduling
