Aspirin exacerbated respiratory disease (AERD), is a triad of sinonasal polyposis, asthma, and aspirin (or COX-1 inhibitor) sensitivity. It is likely more common in the otolaryngology/rhinology practice than many practitioners realize. This course will review the clinical features of AERD, including tips and tricks for recognize this entity in the otolaryngology clinic. Various biologics available to treat Th2-mediated respiratory and allergic diseases will be discussed, along with their potential to treat AERD specifically. Finally, the course will feature a case-based discussion of various presentations of AERD-related sinonasal polyposis. Using this case-based format, AERD treatment options, including the use of biologics, will be highlighted.
After attending this activity, attendees will be able to:
1. Understand the clinical presentation and pathophysiology of aspirin exacerbated respiratory disease
2. Recognize the available biologic therapies for Th2-medicated respiratory disease and how they may benefit the AERD patient
3. Discuss management options for AERD patients in a case-based format
