Positive airway pressure (PAP) therapy is considered first line treatment for obstructive sleep apnea (OSA). Although it is a highly efficacious treatment, it is associated with poor compliance and adherence remains problematic. Hypoglossal nerve stimulation (HNS) represents a significant advancement in the treatment of OSA in those unable to use or tolerate PAP. The Genio™ system by Nyxoah is a new method of HNS does so bilaterally via an implanted neurostimulator activated externally.
After attending this activity, attendees will be able to:
1. List the current surgical treatment options for adult patients with obstructive sleep apnea (OSA)
2. Identify the role of hypoglossal nerve stimulation (HNS) in OSA treatment
3. Discuss the current data on the Genio™ system, a novel device delivering bilateral hypoglossal nerve stimulation for the treatment of OSA
