About Matthew Mifsud
Dr. Misfud is currently head & neck oncologic and microvascular reconstruction within the University of South Florida Morsani college of medicine. He is the founding director of the USF Center for Advanced Salivary Gland Surgery. A graduate of Tufts University School of Medicine, his training consisted of residency training at USF followed by advanced subspecialty fellowship training in Head & Neck Oncologic Surgery and Reconstructive Microsurgery at the University of Toronto in Ontario, Canada. He has a varied and high-volume clinical practice that is focused on complex head & neck oncology and microvascular reconstructive surgery. This variability has allowed him to tackle a wide range of complex challenges not only caused by head & neck malignancies but also skull base disorders, maxillofacial trauma, pharyngoesophageal injuries and upper airway pathology. At USF, he is also developing a unique center devoted to advanced salivary gland surgery. This allows the physician team to manage the full spectrum of salivary gland disorders ranging from inflammatory disease to malignancies. Specific areas of focus include minimally invasive salivary endoscopy procedures, a patient-centered approached to salivary tumors, and the comprehensive management of salivary malignancy. The emphasis of Dr. Misfud’s practice is not only to treat disease, but also to attempt to rehabilitate both function and quality of life for all patients confronted with complex head & neck disorders. As a consequence, he is actively engaged in various academic pursuits with a focus on the refinement of various reconstructive techniques, surgical quality improvement, and perioperative patient optimization.
